Pessary’s for prolapse and leakage

I wanted to drop in and speak about the Somaflex pessary - it has been getting rave reviews from lots of my clients and other professionals in the pessary world and I feel confident recommending it to others, having tried it myself for running.

Why would one choose to use a pessary alongside hypopressives....

➡️ It provides support during rehab: practices like hypopressives can take time to improve prolapse, there is no overnight fix. Instead of avoiding the activities you love use a somaflex like a sports bra to provide the support to the pelvic organs.

➡️ Provide support to the muscles and tissues while they re-structure. Providing support to these muscles and fascia can enable them to start changing in structure. It is thought that pessary's can help release tension by providing the support needed so that the muscles don't grip to try and do that job.

➡️ Build confidence safely when returning to exercise. Once cleared for returning to higher intensity exercise pessary's can be reassuring to those of us who feel like exercising might make our prolapse worse. Having something that supports the pelvic organs and pelvic floor can be a reassuring step when returning to exercise.

➡️ Pessary's can help you stop thinking about your symptoms 24/7. I know from having a prolapse that when you can feel it, you are always thinking about it.

➡️ Allow you to feel more comfortable- pessarys can relieve the heaviness, pain, rubbing, stuck tampon feeling so that you can feel more comfortable during your day.

➡️ Stop the leaks - pessarys can aid in stopping leaks whilst you rehab the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles and systems.

➡️ Use it when symptoms flare- there are times during our cycle when symptoms can flare and you may find the support of a pessary helpful.

When I first had prolapse and leakage my only options back then were hard rubber pessarys- I tried this once and the discomfort from wearing them far outweighed the symptoms!

Had somaflex been an option back then I would have jumped at the chance to use this device.

Somaflex is a soft silicone pessary - comfortable to take in and out. Sizing wise I started with the middle sized, I found that slipped a little so went bigger but that slipped even more. When I tried smaller it stayed in well and provided the support I needed.
