HOW LONG DOES HYPOPRESSIES TAKE TO WORK?

I was speaking to a long standing client yesterday who was reflecting on her journey and how much improvement she has seen in her leakage. I wanted to share as this will no doubt resonate with some of you and give you some insight into what to expect from hypopressives.

This client started hypopressives for her leakage and has seen some massive improvements but it certainly hasn’t happened overnight. Nine months on she is now noticing how much the leakage has improved!

Symptom improvements vary from person to person depending on what you’re living with and what’s causing it.

With the pelvic floor we’re working with slow twitch muscle fibres, smooth muscle and fascia all of which require consistent, slow and smooth activation and it takes longer for these muscles to change. You need to give hypopressives at least 6 months of consistent practice before assessing whether it is helping you. So don’t give up!

Some people may see improvements after 3 weeks but for others it may take a year or 2- especially those of us with rectocele.

What my clients have found is that, although it may be taking longer than expected to fully cure their symptoms, they see gradual improvements and other benefits to their body which encourages them to continue with the practice.

If you’re at the start of your hypopressives journey be open, curious and non judgemental. If you keep it up you will reap the rewards.
